Frequently Asked Questions
How does what you do differ from physiotherapy, chiropractic and osteopathy?
All of these disciplines approach pain and injury in a slightly different way, and thus deal with the soft tissue component of the problem in differing amounts. I focus entirely on the soft tissue side of the equation.
The techniques I use may look like other physiotherapy, chiropractic and osteopathic treatment you have had, but mine are far more effective. Indeed, I teach these techniques to many physiotherapists, chiropractors and osteopaths.
So is it just Sport Massage?
It’s more than that. My advanced soft tissue techniques have their roots in sports massage methods, but are far more focused and applied. Much like I explain above with the other disciplines, things I do may look like sports massage, but in fact the benefits are much greater. A client once described it as “Ultimate Sports Massage – Squared”, which I think is a pretty good description. Again, I teach these advanced techniques to Sports Massage Therapists.
Do I need a referral from my doctor or surgeon?
No. You can receive treatment without a referral. If you are, or have recently been, under medical supervision, I advise that you ask your doctor/surgeon if it is safe to receive treatment. I reserve the right not to treat you if I feel that further medical advice is necessary
How long will I have to wait for an appointment?
This depends on my schedule. I try to accommodate most requests for appointments as soon as I can.
Can I wait in a private waiting room?
If you would rather not wait in the waiting room for your treatment please request special arrangements.
Your forms ask a lot of questions, why is that?
My forms ask as many questions as I need to determine an appropriate course of treatment. Therefore it is important that you complete them as fully as possible.
How can I pay?
I accept all credit cards, cheques with a guarantee card and cash.
Can I claim on my insurance?
I will provide receipts for you so you may seek reimbursement. Your insurance company will deal with each claim on an individual basis, therefore I am unable to guarantee their repayment to you. I do not deal with insurance companies directly.
Do I have to undress?
The treatment requires access to your skin, so some undressing will be necessary. You will not be required at any time to be fully naked.
Will it hurt?
At times the treatment may be uncomfortable and even painful. I will work to your tolerance but please understand that to achieve the results I do, I need to physically manipulate your muscles. You can stop me at any time.
Is is safe?
Completely.
Can I bring a friend to keep me company?
I am happy for you to bring a chaperone. However they must sit quietly and must not talk during the session.
How long will it take?
Your first sessions will last about an hour. Subsequent sessions last 20-30 minutes.
Will I need further sessions?
You will experience immediate improvements, but may need further treatments to achieve a permanent improvement. Duration of treatment programmes will vary, but a good basic indicator is 4-6 further sessions.
How many times a week can I have treatment?
Usually once a week is enough, but for those dedicated to rapid improvement, treatment regularity is limited only by your physical response to the treatment. Three sessions a week is probably the limit.
